StarTECH is an integral part of the HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence by providing a comprehensive blended program that bridges the certified nursing assistant practice gap for PCTs and CNAs to work in the acute care environment.

PCT Approach Steps
The StarTECH PCT Program provides a pathway for high school graduates or second‐career individuals who are interested in starting their healthcare career, working in our HCA Healthcare Hospitals as novice Patient Care Technicians. Graduates of the StarTECH PCT Program are prepared to assist in the care of our patients.
CNA Approach Steps
The StarTECH CNA Program provides the learner with strong core knowledge of basic nursing fundamental skills.

Three (3) - week training for CNAs
One Week (40 hours) includes HCA Healthcare specific hands‐on skills training taught by experienced StaRN clinical instructors. Two Weeks (80 hours) of unit‐based Clinical Preceptorship including two days of HCA Healthcare market, hospital‐specific, general and clinical orientation.
Interactive classroom lectures/discussions
Curriculum‐based on evidence‐based practice, National Standards and HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence, Meditech (EHR) hands‐on training, Communication Tools based on TeamSTEPPS®, CPI ‐ Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Foundation Course, Behavioral Emergency Response Team (B.E.R.T.); Patient Safety Attendant, Trauma Informed Care, Geriatric Compassionate Care, AIDET, SBAR, Patient Experience, Fall Prevention, and more.
Hands-on skills training, that includes but not limited to:
Donning/Doffing of PPE, SCD’s, CAUTI Prevention – Foley & Perineal Care, Handwashing and Infection Prevention • Vital Signs: Manual; Orthostatic (Postural); Automated, Telemetry Responsibilities, Post Mortem Care, Skin Care, Patient Comfort, ADLs including CHG Bathing, Recognizing Emergencies including Rapid Response and Mock Code Blue Practice, Specimen Collection: Stool, Sputum, Urine.

StarTECH PCT Training Program – Five (5) Weeks
Two Weeks (80 hours) basic nursing care fundamentals, including hands‐on skills training and return demonstrations with experienced StaRN clinical instructors.
ARC BLS for Healthcare Professionals
One Week (40 hours) includes HCA Healthcare specific hands‐on skills training by experienced StaRN clinical instructors. Two Weeks (80 hours) of unit‐based Clinical Preceptorship including two days of HCA Healthcare market, hospital‐specific, general and clinical orientation.
Weeks 1 & 2 ‐ Interactive Classroom, Skills and Equipment Training
Curriculum‐based on evidence‐based practice, National Standards and HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence, BLS for Healthcare Professionals, AIDET, Patient Experience, Patient Safety, Infection Prevention, Hand Washing, Observe and Report, Documentation, Basic Bed & Room Skills: Occupied Bed Making, Bed Pan, Bedside Commode, Equipment Cleaning, Mobility Skills: Safe Patient Lifting; Transfers including wheelchair usage, ROM, Ambulation with Gait Belt Usage, ADL Skills: Comfort Measures; Patient Positioning, Turning, Mouth Care, Bathing, Basic Math Skills including Intake and Output Measurements, Vital Sign Skill Competency: Manual BP, Pulse, Respiration, and Reporting.
Week 3 ‐ Classroom, Skills and Equipment Training

Weeks 4 & 5 ‐ General and Clinical New Employee Orientation along with Clinical Preceptorship
One Day 8 hours of General - New Employee Orientation
One Day comprising 4-8 hours of Clinical - New Employee Orientation
64 Hours of preceptorship in a clinical setting with a clinical preceptor
