The program Curriculums are based on evidence-based practice, National Standards and HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence.

Many of the division and/or facility-specific training initiatives will be incorporated. Depending on the HCA Healthcare Division and the specific Specialty Program, StaRN Learners may earn the following certifications based on the HCA Healthcare Division Job Description Requirements: Basic Dysrhythmia, ARC – BLS / ALS, AHA PALS, ENA ENPC – TNCC, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), S.T.A.B.L.E., NIH Stroke Scale, and CPI – Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Foundation Certification and Communication Tools based on TeamSTEPPS®.

Learners should already be facility/internal employees at the start of the program.

The programs run for approximately 10–16 weeks. The first four–six (4–6) weeks include a combination of didactic education and skills, eLearning, facility days and simulation. The remaining six–eleven (6–11) weeks are spent at the sponsoring facility working with a clinical preceptor from the hiring facility.

All internal Learners’ hours remain with the facility for the duration of the program.

Yes. Learners are paid according to their sponsoring facilities’ payroll policies.

All Learners are required to attend every didactic / facility / simulation day and scheduled days in preceptorship. All Learners are expected to come to class prepared with a laptop, stethoscope, dressed appropriately, and with a professional, engaged, and courteous attitude at all times.

The hiring manager at the facility selects the Preceptors.

• Didactic / skills classroom instruction will be held at a centrally agreed upon location (facility training room, hotel or college classroom).

• Simulation is typically held at the sponsoring facility in a closed unit or adjacent office building or partner with local simulation center in the market (usually physician training center).

• Facility days will be held at the sponsoring facility for each Learner.

The sourcing and recruiting of candidates will be the responsibility of the facility and recruitment team. All learners selected should be incumbents with a minimum of 2+ years of acute care experience.

Depending on the market, some participating nurses make a two-year commitment to work at the sponsoring hospital. Learners may be obligated to repay a pro-rated portion of the educational costs should they break that commitment.
